The Government of Andhra Pradesh has issued G.O.MS.No.21 through the General Administration (Cabinet-II) Department on 12 February 2026. Through this order, the existing Department of Gram Volunteers / Ward Volunteers and Village Secretariats / Ward Secretariats has been officially renamed as the Department of Swarna Gramam and Swarna Wardu (SGSW).
The change has been made by amending the First Schedule of the Andhra Pradesh Government Business Rules, 2018, under the Local Bodies Sector. The order states that the department itself requested this change in nomenclature. The amendment has been issued by the Governor of Andhra Pradesh using powers under Article 166 (2) and (3) of the Constitution of India.
This renaming is effective from 12-02-2026. The order only changes the department name. There is no change in services, structure, or functioning of Village and Ward Secretariats.
